ABOUT THE
SELANGOR SYMPHONY ACADEMY
The Selangor Symphony Academy (SSA) welcomes all ages and levels to partake in our immersive weekly ensembles together with our unique performing opportunities.
Currently we are offering 3 ensemble programs at the SSA - the Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra, Junior Strings, and Kinder Strings.
Formerly known as the Eugene Pook Orchestra Academy (EPOA) which was set up in 2016, in January 2021, EPOA merged with the Selangor Symphony Orchestra, with the aim to create synergies for both organisations.
At the SSA, we offer complete musical learning journey from as early as aged 5 from beginner level to professional level, with the opportunities to perform with the SSO:

Virtual Conducting Workshop
June, 2020
"Introductory Workshop for Conductors" has been successfully completed. Congratulations to all 17 participants for completing all 5 classes in 4 weeks in June 2020. There were many valuable topics covered during the workshop taught in group and individual sessions. We must thank our teachers/conductors Mr Kevin Field, Professor Harry Spence Lyth, and Mr Eugene Pook for dedicating their time to share their expertise. We wish all participants the best in their musical endeavour and we will certainly be in touch with you and hope to see you all soon again!

Community Outreach at the Alzheimer Disease Foundation Malaysia

Today, I had the privilege to bring a little bit of joy, through music, to a group of Alzheimer patients. It brings back perspective to life... to take a pause in life and celebrate life as it is, not as what it should be; giving is a privilege. Get A Taste Of Orchestra Instruments
(held on18th & 24th August 2019)
The 2-day free trial on orchestra instruments attracted more than 50 children who came to experience what it’s like to hold real orchestral instruments! During the 2-hour session, children (and their parents too!) had the opportunities to try out various brass, woodwind, and string instruments, and to discover their interest and unleash their talent. During the session, our passionate musicians demonstrated the sound and character of their instruments, our teachers talked about the importance of ensemble participation and how it can benefit young children and also what it’s like to be a professional musician. The afternoon ended with Q & A session. We thank The Saxophone Store for providing winds instruments for the events.
Opening performance at the Hong Kong International Music Festival
(Malaysia preliminary round)
Our recent performance for the opening ceremony of the 2019 Award & Concert Preliminary Round of Hong Kong International Music Festival held at Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park held on 3 August 2019. Performed by the the youth orchestra members and students and staff of Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park and guest players...and conducted by CAPTAIN AMERICA!
"Orchestra Workshop & Concert" with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra

Our players participated in "Orchestra Workshop & Concert" on 7th & 8th May 2019 coached by the professional musicians of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, event was organized by Tenby Schools, Setia Eco Park.
Swan Lake production

A Charity performance in aid of Make A Wish Malaysia's Wish Ball 2018 held on 7 December 2018 in Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur. Selected pieces from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake were performed in collaboration with dancers from KL Dance Works.
