SSO FELLOWSHIP

SSO Fellowship programme is for highly talented young musicians looking to gain valuable experience through performing regularly with the professional orchestra - the Selangor Symphony Orchestra, on the highest artistry. 

 

Selected by competitive requirements, the SSO Fellowship provides successful candidates the opportunities to work closely the SSO and this includes performing with the SSO, performing in masterclasses, discussions with SSO musicians, management, conductors, and guest soloists. 

INFO, REQUIREMENTS, & APPLY

ROLES OF A FELLOW AND BENEFITS

  • All successful Fellows will be in residency with the SSO for up to 2 years;

  • To be mentored by members of the SSO and will perform regularly in SSO concerts;

  • Serving as an ambassador in the community by performing outreach events;

  • Engaging with SSO leadership and mentors;

  • To participate in performing Masterclass coached by SSO musicians and visiting guest soloists.

  • All Fellows will receive a stipend of RM400 from performing in a concert.

REQUIREMENTS 

To be qualified for being a Fellow, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

  • You must be aged 18 and below;

  • Citizen or Resident of Malaysia;

  • Have passed Trinity College London or ABRSM Grade 8 practical exam;

  • Have enrolled and participated in the Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra's weekly training program for at least 2 Terms;

  • Have extensive chamber music experiences;

  • Pass the audition video and informal live interview. 

AUDITION FEE, REPERTOIRE, AND INFO

  • All applicants will need to submit video recordings performing selected orchestra excerpts, click HERE for the audition excerpts. 

  • Live interview will be scheduled after passing the video recording audition. 

  • We require a one-time RM120 audition fee for all Fellowship applicants. Please note that this fee will not be returned if the applicant is not accepted. 

VIDEO RECORDINGS CRITIREA 

  • Video recordings must be played in one continuous, unedited segment.

  • Video recordings shall not be edited or enhanced.

  • Video recordings must be recorded and displayed in Landscape Mode.

  • Audio and video shall be recorded simultaneously.

  • Video recordings shall be made in one continuous recording from a single fixed camera location.

  • The performer should be placed in the frame so that the instrument and the performer’s face and hands are clearly visible without obstruction. It is not necessary to include the entire participant within the frame.

  • Applicants are advised to ensure that the audio and video of the recording are of high quality.

  • Any indication that there has been editing or that recording equipment was paused/stopped between excerpts will result in the disqualification of the applicant.

  • All applicants have the choice to submit the audition video from ONE of the following: 1) by email send to academy@sso.org.my. For large video files you may consider WeTransfer www.wetransfer.com. WeTransfer is the simplest way to share large files up to 2GB for free. 2) upload in Google Drive and email to us, 3) send audition video via Whatsapp to us at +6014-974-6885. 

TERMS & CONDITIONS AND OTHER INFO  

  • A successful Fellow will be determined by the audition panel which includes SSO Music Director, SSYO Conductors, and SSO key musicians;

  • All successful Fellows will be in residency for 1 year for up to 2 years, renewable upon reviewed by SSO Music Director and SSO key musicians.
