  Eugene Pook  

Eugene Pook, conductor 

​

Hailing from Ipoh, Eugene Pook is Founder, Music Director and Conductor of the Selangor Symphony Orchestra and Kuala Lumpur Pop Orchestra. In addition he is the Executive Director of the Ipoh Music Festival, Founding Member, Music Director of the PSPA (Perak Society of Performing Arts) International Ensemble, and was former Music Director & Conductor of the Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra and Co-director & Conductor of the Encounter Training Ensemble of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. 

 

Eugene’s selfless contribution to the music industry has benefited youths and communities of all races and backgrounds as well as professional musicians in Malaysia. This is part of the process of developing into a civilized society that Eugene aspires for Malaysia. In 2012, he was awarded the “10 Outstanding Young Malaysians Award” for his cultural contributions and achievements.

 Mayya Musaeva 
Mayya Musaeva, violin coach

Violinist and conductor Mayya Musaeva was working as Concertmaster at The Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of Tashkent, Uzbekistan when she was invited to join and assist in developing the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia in the year 1997. She accepted the offer and remained as Concertmaster of the NSO until 2012. During her 17 years in Malaysia, Mayya has given numerous performances and recitals as a soloist and chamber player. She has frequently been invited to lead different orchestras in varied productions as soloist as well as guest concertmaster and leader. In addition to live performances, Mayya has produced two albums of original compositions entitled “Golden Rain” and “Come, You Are Invited” which featured her as both solo violinist and composer. In 2012 Mayya joined UPSI as a senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts.  Mayya is currently Senior Lecturer at the University Pendidikan Sultan Idris, she is also the head coach and conductor of the Eugene Pook Orchestra Academy. 

  Lynnette Seah   
Lynnette Seah, violin coach
(Co-Concertmaster, Singapore Symphony Orchestra)
 

Lynnette Seah was the acting Leader at the inception of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in January 1979, and is currently its Co-Concertmaster. As a soloist, she has performed with the SSO and several orchestras in Europe including Josef Suk's Fantasie with Zurich Symphony Orchestra in the Tonhalle Zurich, the Mozart Violin Concerto in G major with the Orebro Chamber Orchestra in Sweden, and the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Teplice Symphony Orchestra and Finnish conductor Ralf Sjobel in Czechoslovakia.

 Chan Wei Shing 

Chan Wei Shing, cello coach

Chan Wei Shing, born to a musical family, started learning the piano at the age of eight and the cello at ten, with Mrs. H. Ilano (Former sub-principal, SSO). In 1985, he won the First Prize in two categories of the National Music Competition – the Cello Open and the Chamber Music. Since then, Wei-Shing has been involved in many concerts and opera productions such as Die Fledermaus and La Traviata, and also Young Musicians Concerts. As principal cellist of the Singapore Youth Orchestra then, he was also selected as soloist in 1985 and in 1988 for the orchestra’s tour to Australia.

 

In 1988, Wei-Shing studied at the University of Music in Vienna with Prof. Angelika May for two years, as a result of winning the scholarship from the former Cultural Foundation and the Lee Foundation. Then he went on to the University of Music in Graz to study with Prof. Rudolf Leopold. Here in 1996, he was awarded the Master Degree of Arts major in Cello Performing.
