Year-End Grand Concert

About The Concert:

Presenting you Annual Grand Concert performed by one of the premiere youth orchestras in Malaysia - the Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra (SSYO). This concert will also feature 4 violin soloists from the members of the orchestra, in which each soloist will perform a movement of the all-time-favourite Four Seasons Violin Concerto by Vivaldi. Come, support, and witness the 45 outstanding young Malaysian musicians to take centre stage on a one-night-only concert!

Featured soloists:


Esther Lee, violin soloist

Esther Lee Xian Ni started her musical journey at the age of 5 by playing the piano. A year later, she started learning the violin and has been playing for 10 years since then. She is currently studying with MPO musician, Liang Zhenzhen. Recently, she has completed the Trinity ATCL exam and participated in the Euroasia Strings Competition 2022 under the solo open age 15-17 category as well as the ensemble category. She has participated in multiple competitions as a soloist and ensemble, this includes the Hong Kong International Music Festival, Singapore Raffles International Music Festival and other online international competitions. Esther enjoys playing in an ensemble and has been with the Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra for nearly 3 years. Other than SSYO, she is in ensembles, The Melomane Strings and Ensemble di Attaca, formed by her and a few other friends. They were invited to perform in multiple events like the Bijoux Français by Euroasia, prom and club events. Esther is also a member of the Sri Kuala Lumpur Wind Orchestra as well as Genius Seni Muzik. Other than playing the violin, she enjoys learning other instruments like the trumpet, flute and piano.


Anna Ruth, violin soloist

Anna Ruth Oh was born in 2011 in Miri, Sarawak and moved to Kuala Lumpur in the same year. At the age of 6, she began her musical training on the piano with Ms Lydia Khoo. She started violin studies at the age of 7 and is currently under the tutelage of Ms Zhenzhen Liang.

In 2019, Anna was a Finalist in the Euroasia Strings Competition (Junior Ensemble Division). In 2021, Anna achieved a Distinction in the ABRSM Performance Grade Exam for Piano Grade 5 and was selected to perform in the Sixth ABRSM Global High Scorers' Concert in October 2021.

In 2022, Anna was selected as a Finalist in the Selangor Symphony Orchestra's 1st National Concerto Competition. In the same year, Anna was awarded second prize in the Grade 7 Division for Piano in the Euroasia Youth Music Festival and also second prize in the Age 11 to 12 Division in the Euroasia Strings Competition 2022.

Anna enjoys performing and is an active member of the Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra since February 2022. Besides playing the piano and violin, she enjoys the outdoors, hiking, travelling, karate and reading. She is also fond of watching musical comedy by classical violin comedy duo TwoSet Violin. Her favourite composers are Vivaldi and Mozart.


Jaylea Wong, violin soloist

Jaylea Wong, has always been showing great interest in music, picked up her first violin at the age of 4. Sought-after violinist and teacher Juan Andres Carmona, from Trinity Laban and a core violinist at City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong.

Her first violin stage appearance was at the age of six, performing at French International School in Hong Kong. At the age of eight, she has her first mini charity concert in Hong Kong – The Floating Violin Concert, where she performed on a boat, raised money to support the orphanage.

After moving to Malaysia 2 years ago, she had the opportunity to join SSYO where she learnt to play with other talents in an orchestra environment. She was inspired by the others and continuous to pursue her dream in music. She started to involve herself with the best talents in the region and won Gold medalist Award at EuroAsia String Competition in 2021. Jaylea is also passionate in participating major school musical events, and has been awarded as the winner of Performance Arts Competition 2021 in St Joseph’s Institution international School.

Currently, she is currently learning with Liang Zhenzhen, first violin Principal from MPO.

Hannah Lee, violin soloist


Currently a year 8 student of UCSI International School - Subang Jaya, Hannah Lee Hui Bin started playing the violin at 3 and made her first public performance as a soloist at 5.  She was a first prize winner for Euroasia Strings Competition Open Category from 2016 to 2019. In 2019 she was awarded Gold in The International Liszt Ferenc Competition Malaysia Preliminary Round. In the same year she was also awarded the Best Performer’s Award in the 20th Osaka International Music Competition Malaysia Regional round. Besides local competitions, Hannah is also experienced in international competitions such as the Singapore Raffles International Music Festival, where she was awarded the Bronze medal in 2016 and Silver medal in 2021. Prior to the pandemic lockdown in March of 2020, Hannah has competed as a finalist in The International Arthur Grumiaux Competition for Young Violinists held in Brussels, Belgium. Hannah Lee has also participated in the Singapore Violin Festival 2021 online edition. In January 2022, she was a joint first place winner for the Selangor Symphony Orchestra 1st National Concerto Competition.

She has appeared as a guest performer in All About Love Concert 2016, a benefit recital for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association. She has performed in aid of MareCet's marine conservation cause in 2018, organised by ARS NOVA Music Centre. In the same year, she was also invited to perform in Surabaya, Indonesia. Hannah Lee gave her first solo recital in early 2020. In 2022 Hannah participated in Le French Festival-Bijoux Francais Concert. She has attended masterclasses by Martin Beaver, Qian Zhou, Ryu Goto, Anush Nikogosyan, Vincent Chao, Lee Chun-Hsin and Gayana Hakobyan. At present, Hannah Lee is a member of SSYO (Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra) and is learning violin under the tutelage of Ion Mazur and Su Tzu-Yuan.
