The Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra (SSYO) is known as one of the premiere youth orchestras in Malaysia. At the SSYO, we provide an atmosphere where artistic talents and technical skills can flourish, encouraging young people to gain an understanding of the value of music in their lives, regardless of the career path participants choose to pursue.  The SSYO is composed of talented young musicians aged between 11 - 24, each year SSO guest soloists and conductors lead workshops for SSYO members, and the SSYO performs annually with the SSO in a Side-by-Side concert at prestigious concert halls.

We welcome any players who play the string and wind instruments to join us. The SSYO rehearses at its own orchestra studio on every Saturday in Oasis Village in Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya from

3pm - 6pm. 

Annual Activities:

  • Several concerts a year include our annual concert, outreach concerts, and Side-by-Side performance with the SSO

  • Other concerts include annual music camp, local and national tour, and perform in music festival.

  • Watch rehearsals of SSO

  • Opportunities to be conducted by SSO guest conductors

  • Participate in workshop coached by SSO guest soloists

  • Special workshop on educational topics presented by scholars and renowned guest speakers

UPCOMING CONCERT "Symphony of Unity"

The Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra presents “Symphony of Unity” on September 17th, 2024 (Tuesday) 4pm at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (Petronas Philharmonic Hall).

 

Be inspired by 160 young Malaysian talents honouring Malaysia Day and International Day Of Peace with uplifting classical pieces and pop tunes. Proudly presented by the Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra, with choir members from SMK Kepong (Selangor), SJK (C) Serdang Baru 1, Hin Hua High School, and Estee Pook Academy.

Dress Code: Smart Casual. Strictly no torn jeans, shorts, collarless T-Shirts and sweatshirts, singlets, sports attire, slippers and flip-flops at any time.

 

Conditions of Sales: Please be seated 15 minutes before the performance. Only children aged 4 years and above are allowed with admission tickets. Valid tickets are required for admittance into the concert hall. No refunds. Ticket prices shown exclude any ticket and transaction fees. Discounts cannot be combined. Concessions are only redeemable at the Box Office counter. The Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra reserves the right to introduce discounts and other price changes, and various seating arrangement without notice. Performances will begin promptly as scheduled, if you are late, you will be seated at an appropriate point by one of our ushers. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds or price adjustments if you arrive late for a performance. The artistic programme (including all artists and repertoire) is subject to change without notice. Reprint tickets will be charged a fee of RM5 per ticket. Any lost ticket cannot be exchanged for another concert. No food and drinks are allowed into the hall.

Hin Hua High School Choir

 

Our school choir was established in 1985 and currently has 96 members. It is a mixed-voice choir. Our choir committed to promoting music education in school, regularly co-organizing inter-class chorus competitions, and often participating in out-of-school music activities. In 2023, we held a concert titled "Melody in the sunshine" and participated in the MCE international choir festival in 2022. Our school continues to promote the growth of members in music by providing a variety of platforms and activities.

SMK Kepong Choir Club

 

The SMK Kepong Choir Club is comprised of 50 members, ranging from Form 2  to Form 5 students. Among its notable achievements, the club has secured the state championship and Best Conductor award for four consecutive years, from 2020 to 2023. Additionally, the SMK Kepong Choir Club was named the national runner-up and awarded the Best Conductor title in 2021 and 2022. Internationally, the club achieved the Gold Award at the Malaysia International Choral Festival in 2022 and 2023. Furthermore, the SMK Kepong Choir Club frequently receives invitations to perform at both governmental and non-governmental agencies every year.

SJK(C) Serdang Baru 1 Choir

SJK(C) Serdang Baru 1 Choir is a primary school choir from Seri Kembangan, Selangor, Malaysia. The choir was established in March 2022 and consists of 70 students from 9 to 12 years old. Mr Ong Zen Kai is the choirmaster while the other teacher advisors are Mdm Wong Wei Shin, Ms Irene Teo Kai Ni and Ms. Connie Ling Shu Jun. 

Since its establishment, the choir has secured numerous accolades including achieving Champion, Best Conductor’s Award and Best Lagu Rakyat Award in the Selangor State Children’s Choir Competitions 2022. In 2023, the choir achieved Champion and Best Conductor’s Award in the same competition, as well as Champion, Best Conductor’s Award and Best Lagu Rakyat Award in the Sinar Bestari Choir Competition 2023. 

At national level, the choir celebrated Gold Award and Promising Student Conductor Award in the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod National Choir Competition 2022. For the competitions organized by the Malaysia Ministry of Education, the choir achieved Champion in the Malaysian National Children’s Choir Competition 2022, as well as Champion, Best Conductor’s Award and Best M. Nasir Song Award in the Malaysian National Children’s Choir Competition 2023. 

At international level, the choir secured a Gold Medal in the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod International Choir Competition 2022. In 2023, the choir has achieved Gold Award (Grade A, 90.97) in the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod International Choral Festival 2023. The choir also participated in various international friendship concerts and exchange programmes like Choral Exchange with Lianyuan Sany School from Hunan, China in June 2024. 

The choir was also awarded as the Best School Society in 2024, and is continuing its journey for yet another exciting year in choral performance for children.
