The Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra (SSYO) is known as one of the premiere youth orchestras in Malaysia. At the SSYO, we provide an atmosphere where artistic talents and technical skills can flourish, encouraging young people to gain an understanding of the value of music in their lives, regardless of the career path participants choose to pursue.  SSYO was set up in 2017 and was formerly known as the Eugene Pook Orchestra Academy (EPOA). In 2021 EPOA was renamed to SSYO with the aim to have close affiliation with the Selangor Symphony Orchestra (SSO).

The SSYO is composed of talented young musicians aged 26 and under, each year SSO guest soloists and conductors lead workshops for SSYO members, and the SSYO performs annually with the SSO in a Side-by-Side concert at prestigious concert halls.

We welcome any players who play the string and wind instruments to join us. The SSYO rehearses at its own orchestra studio on every Saturday in Oasis Village in Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya from

3pm - 5:30pm.

Annual Activities:

  • Several concerts a year include our annual concert, outreach concerts, and Side-by-Side performance with the SSO.

  • Other concerts include annual music camp, local and national tour, and perform in music festival.

  • Watch rehearsals of SSO

  • Opportunities to be conducted by SSO guest conductors

  • Participate in workshop coached by SSO guest soloists

  • Special workshop on educational topics presented by scholars and renowned guest speakers

UPCOMING CONCERTS:

2023 TOUR "FROM THE NEW WORLD"

Concert Poster .jpg

We are thrilled to announce the Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra will be performing in a few cities in upcoming months. This tour will be led by three conductors and together with 50 talented young musicians who passionately share their love of music in outstanding concert halls.

The concert theme is entitled “From The New World”, a metaphor of “significant discovery” as the concerts showcase the discovery of our nation’s talents. “From The New World” is also the popular title for Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, which is one of the highlights of the concert programme. Join us in this incredible journey where we present you a series of exciting music performed by a full symphony orchestra!
