SSO Fellowship programme is for highly talented young musicians looking to gain valuable experience through performing regularly with the professional orchestra - the Selangor Symphony Orchestra, on the highest artistry. 


Open by audition only, the SSO Fellowship provides successful candidates the opportunities to work closely the SSO and this includes performing with the SSO, performing in masterclasses, discussions with SSO musicians, management, conductors, and guest soloists. 

 Roles of a Fellow

  • All successful Fellows will be in residency for 1 yearn with the SSO, renewable on every year (up to 2 years) upon reviewed and approval by the SSO Artistic Committee

  • To be mentored by members of the SSO and to perform regularly in SSO concerts

  • Serving as an ambassador in the community by performing outreach events

  • Engaging with SSO leadership and mentors

  • To participate in performing Masterclass coached by SSO musicians and visiting guest soloists



To be qualified for being a Fellow, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

  • You must be aged 15 to 18

  • Resident of Malaysia

  • Must be taking private lessons on a weekly basis with an instrumental teacher 

  • Have extensive orchestra experiences for at least 2 years 

  • Recommendation letter from a current instrumental teacher AND a conductor

  • In general playing level is grade 8 and above. However the audition result is determined by the SSO Artistic Advisory Committee based on your audition video  


  • Audition result is determined by the SSO Artistic Advisory Committee

  • All successful Fellows will be in residency for 1 year (up to 2 years), renewable on every year upon reviewed by the SSO Artistic Advisory Committee

  • Please note that SSO Fellows do not get renumeration to perform in SSO concerts.

1) In your application include URL of Youtube of audition video recording. Audition pieces can he found HERE

2) In your application include attach letter of recommendation from your current instrumental music teacher AND a conductor

3) In your application include upload a current résumé (not more than two pages in length, in PDF format)

4) In your application include attach proof of payment of RM50 application fee 


  • Make sure you have the right audition excerpts, requirements, tempi, etc. Please use the audition sheet music provided by us.

  • While recording, make sure nothing is obstructing you or your instrument.

  • The video should show your face and your entire arm length.

  • Listen through your recording to ensure clarity and adequate volume.

  • The recording may have slight pauses between the excerpts, but should not be spliced together with multiple takes or videos. The recording should be one continuous audition as if you were in a live audition.

  • Upload your video recording to YouTube. Video files submitted in other formats will not be accepted. Steps for YouTube uploads can be found HERE 

  • During upload, select the “Unlisted” privacy option. This allows you to still share the video link with us without making the video viewable to the public. Good resources can be found HERE
