SSO FELLOWSHIP

The SSO Fellowship Programme is the final pathway for highly talented young musicians, preparing them for regular performance with the Selangor Symphony Orchestra (SSO) at the highest professional standards.

​

Selected through a competitive process, Fellows gain invaluable exposure to the professional orchestral environment. The programme offers opportunities to perform alongside the SSO, participate in masterclasses, and engage in discussions with SSO musicians, conductors, management, and guest soloists—providing a comprehensive bridge from advanced training to a professional music career.

INFO, REQUIREMENTS, & APPLY

ROLES OF A FELLOW AND BENEFITS

  • All successful Fellows will be in residency with the SSO for up to 2 years

  • To be mentored by members of the SSO and will perform regularly in SSO concerts

  • Serving as an ambassador in the community by performing outreach events

  • Engaging with SSO leadership and mentors

  • To participate in performing Masterclass coached by SSO musicians and visiting guest soloists

REQUIREMENTS 

To be qualified for being a Fellow, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:​

  • You must be aged 19 or below 

  • Citizen or Resident of Malaysia

  • Have passed Trinity College London or ABRSM Grade 8 practical exam

  • Currently enrolling in Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra's weekly training program 

  • Have extensive chamber music experiences OR participated in our Young Artistes Ensemble programme

  • Pass the audition and informal interview

AUDITION REPERTOIRE AND INFO

  • All applicants will need to perform for a live audition playing selected orchestra excerpts, contact us at +6014-974-6885 for the audition excerpts

  • An informal interview will be followed right after playing the audition

  • We require a one-time RM120 audition fee for all Fellowship applicants. Please note that this fee will not be returned if the applicant is not accepted​​​

TERMS & CONDITIONS AND OTHER INFO​  â€‹

  • A Fellow will receive a stipend of RM400 from performing in a concert with the SSO;

  • A successful Fellow will be determined by the audition panel which includes SSO Music Director and SSO key musicians

  • All successful Fellows will be in residency for up to 2 years, renewable every year upon reviewed by SSO Music Director and SSO key musicians

  • All Fellows must continue to enrol and participate in SSYO 

  • Music Director will decide on which concert a Fellow will perform with the SSO
