Shum Hing-Cheung

Selangor Symphony Youth Orchestra 

Shum Hing-Cheung is a distinguished French horn player, orchestral musician, and conductor with an active international career. He studied at the The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts from 1994 to 1999, graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Honours). During his studies, he studied under Mr. Joe Kirtley, former Assistant Principal Horn of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2000, Shum joined the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, where he has since built an extensive performance career. He has collaborated with internationally renowned artists including Fou Ts’ong, Lang Lang, Colleen Lee, Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, Ray Chen, Radovan Vlatković, as well as popular artists such as Hacken Lee and Jeff Chang.

He has toured internationally with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, performing in cities across Tokyo, France, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Macau, and Shanghai. Earlier in his career, he performed with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields under the baton of Sir Neville Marriner in 1997. He also participated in the Yellow River Music Festival, collaborating with the Chorus of the Central Opera House under conductor Yang Liang Kun.

Expanding his artistic scope, Shum Hing-Cheung has also taken on conducting roles, and in 2025 he will serve as conductor of the Shatin Symphony Orchestra, leading performances in August.
